This geological landscape heritage is celebrated internationally as the UNESCO Global Geopark.
The Volcanic Eifel Nature Park was inaugurated in 2010. A richly varied cultural landscape with innumerable maars and volcanoes enables especially nature-focused tourism here. Swim in deep-blue maar lakes surrounded by dense woodland and green meadows, explore narrow walking trails and varied cycle rides or take part in exciting excursions and special events of geoscientific interest. In addition numerous nature experience events are held all the year round. Whether you want to explore the Volcanic Eifel by yourself or prefer guided tours, the widely varied offering has something to suit every taste. Trained nature and Geopark guides will be pleased to take you by the hand and show you the landscape of their homeland, from the Strohner Märchen (Strohner mini-maar) to the Eyes of the Eifel (the Daun maars), around the Manderscheid Castles to the Parcours der Sinne (Trail of the Senses) to the one and only crater lake north of the Alps.
