Allow yourself to drift along on the crystal-clear blue water or dive down into the deep cauldron. Amid the radiantly green landscape of the Volcanic Eifel refresh yourself in a quite special lake: a maar. A number of natural open-air pools invite you to dive into their cool waters. Naturally there are also other open-air pools and in winter also indoor pools. So even on a winter holiday you need not go without the mineral-laden waters.

Nature’s open-air pools are a must for all fans of the outdoors. The crystal-clear and unchlorinated water promises a special bathing experience. Swimming is more than a sport or leisure-time pleasure here. It becomes an unforgettable moment of sensual pleasure. We have put together for you the Volcanic Eiffel’s best swimming pools:

Natural open-air pools in the maars

Schalkenmehrener maar natural open-air pool

ISwimming is permitted in this, the largest of the three Daun maars. How enormous the lake is can be clearly seen when it is viewed from above: it is the size of twenty-one football pitches. Go for a walk, then dip into the water here. Go on a boat trip, destress yourself by gazing into the sparkling blue, give your thoughts free rein and gather strength for new tasks. Also free WLAN is available in the area of the maar pool!

Gemündener Maar natural open-air pool

Dive headfirst into the crystal-clear water from the diving platform. Have no fear, you won’t hit the bottom – the lake is 39 metres deep. So lovers of the jump-kick will be able to jump and kick to their heart’s content here. For the little visitors there is a secure non-swimmer area. Those who don’t want to paddle and splash around in the water can build sandcastles in the shady sandpit. A kiosk, a sunbathing area and a climbing wall make the family outing perfect.

Pulvermaar natural open-air pool

The Pulvermaar is numbered among Germany’s deepest lakes. From the three-metre high diving platform you can only guess where the bottom is – even though the water is crystal-clear. The chlorine-free non-swimmer and paddling pool invite you to splash and romp about to your heart’s content. In the meadows you can look back on your day in the Eifel and dream of the land of volcanoes. Incidentally, here you can also go on a romantic trip in a rowing or pedal boat.

Meerfelder Maar natural open-air pool

Experience bathing, angling and nature – the Meerfelder maar lies in the Eifel’s largest volcanic crater and is a paradise for families with children. There is something to discover on every corner and, what is more, a lot of space to play and splash around in. In the nature reserve rare animal and plant species can be observed. From the Landesblick viewing platform high above the maar cauldron the view into the far distance is fantastic.

Volcanic Eifel thermal bath

Dive down and re-energise: the Volcanic Eifel thermal bath is Germany’s one and only Glauber’s salt thermal bath and therefore far more than a normal indoor pool. The thermal bath is fed by an especially highly mineral-laden spring, which the Romans made great use of in their time. Like them, discover the healing effect of the thermal water.

Manderscheid family open-air pool

Action is guaranteed at the Manderscheid open-air pool. Down the wide water slide you go into the cool water and from there straight onto the diving facilities. In the baby and infant pool there are all sorts of things for the youngest guests to discover. The family open-air pool is also suitable for disabled guests.

Daun Laurentiusbad (Daun Laurentius pool)

People with and without a disability will find all they need in this indoor pool. The barrierless pool is, for example, fitted with a mobile lift for lifting people into and out of the water.
